The Board of Trustees of the Walworth-Seely Public Library seeks an energetic, innovative and community-oriented Library Director with demonstrated leadership ability. The position, vacated by the director retiring after 13 years, requires a candidate with strong communication skills and experience with personnel administration, fiscal management, development, and library technology. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to community outreach, long-range planning experience and the ability to adapt as exploration of alternate governance and funding may take place in the future.

Located on the western border of Wayne County, the Walworth-Seely Public Library serves approximately 9,400 residents and is a member of the Pioneer Library System, a cooperative public library system serving forty-two public libraries in Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming and Livingston counties. The Director oversees an annual operating budget of $299,000 and six dedicated and experienced staff members. An enthusiastic Friends group works cooperatively to contribute to the library's vibrancy.

Minimum Required Qualifications
A Master's Degree in Librarianship from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable education practices, and two years of professional library experience.

Eligibility for a New York State Public Librarian's Professional Certificate at the time of application. Possession of certificate at time of appointment.

Genealogy Bunch meeting on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from Noon-2 PM

Liz Albright, Town of Ontario Historian, will share her research project related to the anniversary of the Civil War.

This is a program for anyone interested in Genealogy. Beginners will learn from those who have done extensive searching. The more experienced genealogist will find help with getting beyond a stumbling block. This is a facilitated program. Bring your questions and successes. Bring your lunch or supper. Dessert and beverage are provided.

The Matteson family came to America and settled in Rhode Island in 1666. Ron Matteson, a local genealogy enthusiast, has generously offered to come to WSPL and talk about his personal genealogical visit to Rhode Island last year. During his trip, he toured East Greenwich and surrounding areas with a local RI Matteson family. The tour included an old historic cemetery where several Matteson's were buried in the 1700's. Mr. Matteson wrote a 45 page booklet to preserve his trip for his family, present and future. His talk will include pictures and a slide show as well.

Whether you are a newbie to the world of genealogy or are an experienced pro, all are welcome. The group does some problem solving - how to find information on that elusive uncle or find out which is the actual birth date of Great Grandma. On occasion, we have guest speakers. WSPL is hosting a free practice SAT exam, sponsored by the Kaplan Educational Center.

This is a fully-proctored SAT exam scheduled for approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes. Students will receive a comprehensive analysis of their performance on the test, detailing individual strengths and weaknesses.

Students should bring at least one number 2 pencil, a calculator, as well as a drink/snack to eat during the breaks.

Students must be picked up promptly by 2PM.

Scores/analysis will be available in two weeks from test date for pick up by ONLY student or parent/guardian.

Jim Spates and Jennifer Morris will share impressions of present day Viet Nam from their recent travels. Jim is a Professor of Sociology at Hobart & William Smith Colleges and has made eight trips to Viet Nam over the past 15 years. He spent last fall there teaching a group of American students on a semester abroad. Jennifer joined them in Hanoi for the last six weeks of the program, her first trip to Viet Nam.

Special Guest! We welcome Kathy O'Meal to this week’s Organic Gardening Meeting. We will be discussing the how: wide row, companion and succession or raised bed; and the what: favorite vegetables and varieties.

Please bring a blank writable RW- DVD to copy some very valuable files to take home. :)

If you are interested in making your own 4 foot wide EMT pipe row covers/hoop houses to go over square foot gardens or wide row long beds… Bring your 10 foot long 1/2 or 3/4 inch EMT pipe so we can bend the bows with a 4 foot hoop bender that Kathy will have available in the parking lot for you!

Kathy will also bring and set up a finished row cover frame with covering to show us how to construct our own. The covering and frame can be used for shade, insect netting or plastic film for extended season succession plantings as well as a great way to start flowers, etc.

On Saturday, March 19, 1 PM-3 PM, Peter Evans, Wayne County Historian, will speak at Village Bookmarket, 207 East Main Street, Palmyra, NY, for a Macedon/Palmyra/Walworth "Our BIG Read" event.

The book chosen for this year's "Our BIG Read" is "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien. It is a semi autobiographical account of "...a young platoon on a battlefield without a front, dodging sniper fire and their own misgivings...".

Peter Evans is a Viet Nam War Veteran who spent his tour in Korea ’66-’67. He was a Company Commander in the 2nd Infantry Division there and wrote a number of letters of condolences to the families of soldiers killed in Viet Nam as well as to families of soldiers that served under him in Korea. In the 13 months Peter was there, the 2nd Infantry lost over 50 men.

Our BIG Read is a collaborative effort of Books, Etc., Macedon, Historic Palmyra, the public libraries of Macedon, Palmyra, and Walworth, and Village Bookmarket.

Come join your friends for an overnight at the library of games of all kinds, both online and off.

Dinner and breakfast will be provided.

Each boy should bring a sleeping bag and pillow.

Please bring a snack to share with the group.

A donation of $5 is gratefully accepted to cover cost of pizza, breakfast and drinks.

There is an extra permission/emergency form that must be filled out PRIOR to the actual overnight. Please ask at the desk when registering.
